Lorenzo is a director and co-founder of Urban Solutions Ltd. You could say collaboration is his strong suit. He loves fostering working relationships with inspirational colleagues who share his vision for creating outstanding urban spaces and, innovative coastal restoration solutions.

With more than 23 years project engineering and direct project management experience behind him, Lorenzo understands the capabilities of firms and individuals within the infrastructure industry. His contract management talents and technical expertise coupled with strong communication and consultation skills ensure exceptional project outcomes for his clients.

Water is an active ingredient in Lorenzo’s life. As senior project manager at Beca between 1995 and 2001 he oversaw major stormwater and wastewater treatment plant projects across the Waikato and the Auckland isthmus. Prior to that he spent five years as a design project engineer on large municipal water treatment projects across the UK.

Recently he has turned his attentions to protecting New Zealand’s coastline, recreating naturalistic seawalls, reefs and breakwaters. In 2006, Urban Solutions won the LGENZ / ACENZ Excellence award for the Kohimarama Beach replenishment project.

When he is not reviving beachfronts and wharfs or delivering life enhancing urban infrastructure projects he can be found out on the water in his boat or submerged beneath it, scuba diving. He has dived with dolphins in Tanzania and, into the pitch-black wreck of the Michael Lermontov, 30 metres below the Cook Strait. Despite having tumbled out of a whitewater raft on a grade 5 rapid on the Zambesi, he still enjoys rivers, especially if it involves fly-fishing.

In true Renaissance man fashion Lorenzo has designed and built his own dream bach on Kawau Island, which is a finalist in the NZ Best Awards in the Best Architecture category. He is also known to brew his own fine ales. He rates making an award winning craft beer up there with climbing the Dolomites and taking his family diving in the Maldives, as personal goals.

Lorenzo lives by the credo be kind, be useful, be curious. You could add personable, honest and diplomatic to that. He develops and maintains strong relationships with consultancies, contracting companies and utility operators. As a trusted and knowledgeable adviser he is often appointed Engineer to Contract or as client representative.
