Crow’s Nest Rise Walkway provides a clifftop walkway connection between Mairangi and Murrays Bay. In 2018, two slips occurred on the walkway, damaging an existing boardwalk and concrete steps and closing two sections of the walkway.

Urban Solutions in partnership with Auckland Council investigated the options available to safely reconnect these two bays. Given the location of the walkway, the known slips of the site, coastal erosion and a limited corridor to work within, this project required thinking outside the box to reopen this much loved walkway.

The project involved consultation with both the local board and local community to develop a feasible solution. Urban Solutions provided assistance in facilitating public meetings, presentations to the local board and analysing the results of the public consultation.

These public consultation results were used as an input into the detailed design including the route alignment and walkway type. Urban Solutions completed the full tender package and undertook the construction monitoring to reopen the Crow’s Nest Rise Walkway for public use. This walkway is now open, providing the community with the much loved connection between the bays.
