The Nukumea Stream Greenways (aka Nukumea Path) is a proposed path network located at the northern end of Orewa that was approved to progress by the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board in 2019.

The main objectives of the Nukumea Path are to provide new walking and cycling connections to Orewa beach, improve access to the bush walks within Alice Eaves Scenic Reserve and encourage people to interact with Nukumea Stream.

Urban Solutions was engaged as project managers for the ‘complete service’ to deliver this project.  The professional services provided include: investigations and assessments, Mana Whenua engagement, communications plan, key stakeholder management and consultation, concept design, public consultation, planning assessment & consents identification, risks and issues management,  landowner negotiations, technical input into Resource Consents, developed and detailed design, building consents, tender documentation, monthly progress reporting, procurement, construction supervision and contract management.

From the outset it was understood that the proposed greenway poses some technical and land ownership challenges in terms of the proposed route traversing a range of different environments including native bush, stream banks, heritage overlays and private land.  Specialist investigations including ecological, arboricultural, archaeological and flooding & inundation were undertaken and the critical finding assessed.  A concept plan, informed by the specialist assessments has been prepared by Urban Solutions and presented to the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board for consideration.

The strong working relationship we have with our specialist partners has been a key component to the successful progression of this project.
