Sturges Park is located on the top of the historic Robertson Hill and is a multi-sport and recreational facility home to the Otahuhu Rugby Football Club and Otahuhu Softball Club.  In 2018, the Mangere-Otahuhu Local Board allocated funding to upgrade the run-down existing Rugby Club carpark and improve the Park Avenue pedestrian access to Sturges Park.

Urban Solutions were engaged for design through to construction supervision. The carpark design improved traffic movement capabilities via incorporation of a new turning circle with disability carparks, and increased the number of parking spaces.

As Sturges Park is known for people congregating to consume alcohol, graffiti and drop litter; crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) was paramount for the project success. Removal of the Park Avenue carparks and installation of bollards to prevent cars from gathering at a known park-up spot were key to achieving a safer, community-friendly park.

Requests from iwi, the Local Board and the Otahuhu Rugby Club to have a blessing for the carpark and host an opening event were key indicators of the project success in the community.
