The Kōpū Marine Precinct project is a regionally significant infrastructure project on the Waihou River which was granted resource consent under the Covid-19 Fast Track Consenting Act in 2022. The project includes an 82-metre commercial wharf, pontoon, public boat ramp and a haulage access area among other facilities. The project is being funded by the government and has been consented through the fast-track consent process, making it a priority development project.

Lorenzo, a highly experienced and reputable project manager with a strong track record in civil and marine construction contracts, is the Engineer to the Contract for this interesting and complex marine project. Urban Solutions led an integrated design and consenting team that have expertly expedited this significant development, securing government funding and fast-track consents for the project. Urban Solutions have managed the concept design, design development, detailed design, consenting, awarding of contracts and have administered the monitoring and supervision of the marine and civil construction contracts.

The consent process for the Kōpū Marine Precinct involved several challenging wetland and ecological issues that needed to be overcome. These challenges were carefully managed and successfully addressed by the project team, who worked closely with the community, local business groups, and ecological experts to ensure that the project was both environmentally responsible and met the needs of the local community.

The new commercial wharf, slipway, and recreation boat ramp facility will provide much-needed infrastructure for the marine industry, boosting the local economy and creating new job opportunities in the region. The new access road will provide improved access to the site, making it easier for businesses and the local community to access the new facilities.

The project is on track for completion in April 2024, and once completed, it will become a major asset for the local community and the wider region. The Kōpū Marine Precinct is a prime example of a successful government-funded project that has been managed with expertise and care, ensuring that it meets the needs of the community while also being environmentally responsible.
